CALL TO PRAYER FROM BUGB GENERAL SECRETARY

We all know that prayer is vital for our worship and mission. Fulfilling Jesus’ Great Commandment and Great Commission needs to be rooted in heartfelt and persistent prayer. I am so grateful to the Lord for all the faithful prayer that is offered across Baptists Together in so many different ways. Here at the start of 2025 I want to call our movement to a continued commitment to prayer in the year ahead. I want us to be praying for our mission so that people will encounter Jesus and surrender their lives to following Him. I want us to be praying for God’s coming Kingdom in our communities as we seek to be salt and light in those places. I want us to be praying that the whole Body of Christ will rise up, living and witnessing to Jesus every day and sharing the reason for the hope that we have. With this in mind I want us to continue to pray into the Project Violet research findings so that we can express our lament and through this also share our hope for a future where every believer can fully play their part in God’s Kingdom purposes. To encourage our prayers the Core Leadership Team will be sharing weekly prayer videos on our social media channels and will also be hosted on our website:

The Baptist Union of Great Britain : Praying Together 2025

There will be five live, online national prayer gatherings on:

· Wednesday 22 January 2025, 7:30-8pm

· Tuesday 25 March 2025, 7:30-8pm

· Tuesday 17 June 2025

· Wednesday 8 October 2025

· Wednesday 26 November 2025

Please put these dates into your diary now! The link for these will be available on our YouTube channel here. 23 – 30 March 2025 is being highlighted as a week of prayer and it would be great if as many of our churches as possible could be praying as they gather throughout that week. There will also be opportunities for prayer at the Baptist Assembly in May and in various Regional Association events throughout the year.

Hear my voice when I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer me. My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek. Psalm 27:7-8

Great News!

With the help of London Hearts we've taken delivery of a Defibrillator which has now been installed on the front of our building. The Defibrillator is registered with the Ambulance Service so if anyone near by needs this life saving equipment they will be directed to the church.

Anyone can use a defibrillator and you don’t need training. Once you turn it on, it will give clear instructions on how to attach the defibrillator pads. The device checks the heart rhythm and will only tell you to shock if it’s needed. You can't shock someone accidentally.

Our thanks to London Hearts that we will be able to help someone whose had a cardiac arrest with this vital equipment and help save a life.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello From Matson Baptist Church

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10 minutes early to ensure you find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits after the service. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop (use T setting) for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets in the main foyer.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10.30am with a warm welcome from one of our team members. Then follows a time of sung worship, bible readings, prayer and a talk given by one of our leaders or a guest speaker which is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. Sometimes a person might pray out loud or share things that they believe God is saying to the whole church family. This might seem strange the first time you hear it but it’s all part of our connecting with God. We then share news and notices, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church.  We then finish with a final worship song, a blessing or we say the Grace to one another. There is an opportunity to receive personal prayer after the service.

What about my kids?

Sunday School is back during the service with bible teaching, games and fun activities. The children join the rest of the Church family for the last part of the service where they can show everyone what they have learnt in Sunday School. Each child can feel part of the church family and know that they belong to Jesus.
For families with babies and younger children you are welcome to stay in church.

Serving and Volunteering

If you want to get involved in the life of the church and help us make Sundays run smoothly, you can sign up to serve on a team.
